A hair-whipping roller-coaster ride is one way to beat the heat, but you won’t be the first person to have the thought.
Korea is home to the world’s 10th and 14th most popular amusement parks in an annual industry report.
Everland, the country’s largest theme park located in Yongin, Gyeonggi, was the 10th most-visited amusement park in the world last year with 6.88 million visitors, according to the Global Attractions Attendance Report from the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA).
Lotte World came in 14th, according to the report, attracting a total of 5.5 million visitors last year, up 22.4 percent from the previous year.
TEA is an international association representing creators, developers, designers and producers of theme parks and other entertainment facilities.
Everland has remained in 10th place for five consecutive years, though its attendance figures were up 11.6 percent last year.
The Walt Disney World Resort’s Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Fla., topped the list with 16.97 million visitors in 2010, followed by Disneyland Park in Anaheim, Calif., with 15.98 million visitors and Tokyo Disneyland with 15 million.
Samsung Everland, the park’s parent company and affiliate of Samsung Group, said, “Considering that Everland is Korea’s homegrown amusement park brand, excluding theme parks affiliated with Disney and Universal Studios, Everland is the No. 1 [in the world].”
Korea’s water parks also placed among the world’s most visited. Caribbean Bay, in Everland, came in fourth, attracting 1.7 million, while Ocean World ranked sixth and Deoksan Spa Castle came in 20th.
